Case Study - Old Government Buildings

This heritage building, the largest wooden building in the Southern Hemisphere, the original Old Government Buildings in Wellington was home to the City’s largest concentration of pigeons.

The Old Government Buildings were completely refurbished for the Department of Conservation. Local installers Kwikill Environmental Services and Ace Birdproofing in 1994 completed the pigeon proofing programme over 16 months.

Products used included:
Ace Bird Net (in pedimented heads)
Avipoint™ (on window filigrees)
Ace Pigeon-Pruf bird wire systems ­ approximately 6.5 km of bird wire was fitted.

Result: All areas proofed remain free of pigeons years later. Regular checks maintain the system’s integrity.
